Best Sources of Resveratrol
You probably have heard by now about the revolutionary nutrient called resveratrol (RV). RV has been in the news a lot lately and for good reason. It is the nutrient found in red wine that is thought to be the most beneficial. This remarkable compound has been shown to increase lifespan in many different species, kill cancer cells at all three stages of formation, and even give overweight mice the ability to run faster and twice as far as mice of normal weight not given RV.

Most of the RV in grapes is found in the skin of the grapes, however muscadine grapes also contain it in their seeds.
Another concentrated source of resveratrol is from a plant called the Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum). Japanese Knotweed and muscadine grapes are the most concentrated natural sources of resveratrol in the world. RV is also found in some berries but not in the high concentrations found in grapes. One other surprising source of resveratrol is peanuts.
Consuming these foods would surely provide some amount of RV. But to ingest resveratrol at the levels that were used in the studies, you would need to consume an impossible amount of these foods. What about taking a resveratrol supplement? Would that be a good way to experience the many health benefits of RV? The answer to this question is not so straightforward. There are many different types of RV supplements and some are much better than others.
The resveratrol (RV) supplements I would stay away from are those that just contain RV, and nothing else. These supplements contain RV but it has been isolated from all the other plant chemicals and enzymes that normally accompany RV in plants. Our bodies simply are not adapted to absorb nutrients when they are separated from the matrix of natural elements found in nature. I would shy away from all supplements in fact that contain isolated nutrients. These supplements just arent natural and are either not absorbed well by the body or in some cases actually do more harm than good.
The best types of resveratrol (RV) supplements are those that are in whole food form. Whole food supplements are healthy foods that have been super-concentrated and put in pill or powder form. These supplements are natural because they contain all the compounds normally present in nature, they just have had the water and sometimes the sugar and fiber removed.
What are left are the food nutrients in a very concentrated form. Our body recognizes this form of supplements as food and has no problem absorbing it and being able to use it to nourish the body. The best RV supplements are those that are whole food concentrates of muscadine grapes or Japanese Knotweed. Muscadine grape supplements are the very best because they contain many other nutrients that Japanese Knotweed does not contain, including quercetin, ellagic acid, and piceattanol. Those supplements that are made from the skins of muscadine grapes are even better yet, as it is the skin of the grape that contains the highest concentration of resveratrol.
Upon learning all this info after researching resveratrol, I set out to find the very best RV supplement I could find. The more I investigated resveratrol, the more excited I became about it.
