Quick, Healthy & Delicious "Mini - Meals" For A Lean Body

January 16, 2010

I get emails just about every day from readers who are trying to make healthier food choices, but they are having trouble sticking with it because they can't stop snacking throughout the day. I know that many folks think that in order to lose abdomen fat they need to devour chicken breast, brown rice, and broccoli all day, but that is completely false!

There are a ton of meal strategy options that are not only healthy, but also delicious and not boring at all. The most important thing is to keep the meal plan fresh and new so it doesn't get boring.

Having a healthy mini-meal between meals is a useful way to keep your cravings under control and also keep your metabolism burning strong. If you are still eating 2 or 3 big meals per day instead of 5 to 6 small meals this is exactly what you need...a healthy mini-meal to eat between meals or when you get hungry during the day to help jumpstart your metabolism and curb cravings.

The reason most folks fail to stay on the proper track is because they just don't have a plan. They don't bring their meals and snacks to work with them, and then get hungry around 2pm, and then end up hitting up the company vending machine. Sound familiar?

If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. If you don't have a healthy mini-meal or snack close by while you are at work, or out running errands, odds are you will stop at the drive through, corner store, or vending machine and grab some junk food.

Here is a list of a few of my favorite lean body mini-meals that I've used successfully in my own diet that I think you will love. They are clear-cut, quick, easy, healthy, and delicious.

Quick and easy health mini meals:

-Cottage cheese with sliced berries and/or walnuts

-Raw celery with hummus

-Homemade protein bars

-Apple slices microwaved for 30 seconds and sprinkled with cinnamon

-Protein yogurt (greek yogurt + protein powder + frozen raspberries)

-Ezekiel toast with almond butter

- Nut & berry mixes (almonds + strawberries, cashews + raspberries, etc)

-A few hard boiled eggs with Mrs Dash Seasoning & or hummus

-Apple slices with almond or cashew butter -Celery sticks with peanut butter

Building a solid nutritional strategy is like climbing a ladder. Start with the initial rung (the basics) - and gradually make your way to the top. Remember, the possible combinations and variations of healthy mini-meal ideas are unlimited.

* Healthy Meal Recipe For A Lean Body - Soft Beef Tacos.

It is surprising to find out how many folks simply have no idea that there is a better method to fat loss than the old-school bland and boring bodybuilding diet method. There are a ton of healthy meal options out there besides boring tuna, green beans, and brown rice. This pre-historic bodybuilding fat loss diet methodology just isn't required or helpful. Plus, if you eat the same foods each day, you can create nutrient deficiencies because you will not obtain the nutrients that you would normally get by having a more balanced diet.

Here is a healthy recipe that is not only tasty, but loaded with a ton of nutrients as well. Here's to a lean body, enjoy!

Soft Beef Tacos

Ingredients:

-Pam cooking spray

-1 pound Trader Joes or Whole Foods Brand lean ground meat (I like using grass-fed beef, ground buffalo/bison, and ground turkey)

-6 Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Tortillas

-1/4 cup unsalted sunflower kernels, toasted

-1 serving Bearitos low-sodium taco seasoning

-2 cups tomatoes, chopped and seeded

-3/4 cup sweet onion, diced -1/4 cup ripe olives, chopped

-1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped

-1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

-3 cups lettuce, shredded

-1 (8-ounce) jar salsa

-1/2 cup (4-ounces) low-fat crumbled feta cheese

-6 tablespoons reduced-fat sour cream

-1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

-1 cup fat-free refried beans

Directions:

1. Spray the pan with cooking spray and preheat. Follow the instructions on the taco seasoning package.

2. Cook meat until brown and set aside.

3. Place tortillas on sprayed grill rack and grill for 30 seconds on each side until crisp and golden brown.

4. In a medium bowl, toss together tomatoes, onions, olives, cilantro, lime juice and pepper.

5. Top with 2 tablespoons salsa, 1/2 cup shredded lettuce, 1/2 cup tomato mixture, 2 tablespoons feta cheese.

6. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and sunflower kernels. Garnish with scallions, fresh limes and cilantro.

This recipe makes roughly 6 servings, so you will be able to save the leftovers for a healthy lunch or snack for later.
