How to make KFC Coleslaw - KFC Coleslaw Recipe

September 2, 2010

There is something inexplicably strange about KFC Coleslaw that sends the fans of this famous Kentucky product go weak in the knees and drooling in the mouth. The adoration that it attracts from its die-hard fans is something unbelievable. It is amazing that mere coleslaw can affect human emotions to such an extent.

The secret of the KFC coleslaw lies in its secret recipe. There is that something special about the coleslaw bought from KFC and somewhere else. Even a blindfolded person will be able to identify without a moment's delay the real KFC coleslaw and its impersonating poor cousin.

As is common in such situations, there are many cooks and chefs who claim to have cracked the code and unraveled the secret recipe of KFC coleslaw. However, their claims fall flat on its face when the preparation is tasted by the KFC coleslaw connoisseur. There are some recipes that regularly appear on the internet and which has led most people to believe that they come closest to the original stuff, though not exactly as the real KFC coleslaw.

Here is what goes into the so called original KFC coleslaw recipe:

8 cups finely diced cabbage
¼ cup diced carrot
2 TBS minced onion
½ cup mayonnaise
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup milk
1 ½ TBS white vinegar
2 ½ TBS lemon juice

Mixing the above ingredients in various proportions in a food processor is the secret to that peculiar taste of KFC coleslaw as claimed by authors of most of these 'authentic' recipes.

There is even one claim by a chef who boasts that he has worked in the KFC kitchen for long and has prepared enough KFC coleslaw to know exactly how it works. This one claims that the secret ingredient is tarragon vinegar.

Ingredients such as miracle whip, raisins, various types of vinegar and buttermilk find their way in and out of several of those true KFC style recipes for coleslaw. But the secret remains indecipherable. Does the secret lie in the hours you are supposed to refrigerate it? Or has it got something to do with the place from all the ingredients are sourced?

Does KFC use a different water source that lends that special taste to its brand of coleslaw?

There are so many unanswered questions. There is however complete unanimity on one thing. There is nothing that comes closer to the original finger lickin' good recipe of KFC coleslaw.
